How MPLS works over IPv6 Network?

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a networking technology that allows for the efficient forwarding of data packets across a wide area network (WAN) or between multiple local area networks (LANs). It is commonly used by service providers and enterprise networks to improve the performance and efficiency of their networks.

One of the main features of MPLS is its ability to support multiple protocols, including IPv4 and IPv6. This allows organizations to use MPLS to efficiently forward traffic over both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. In this article, we will discuss how MPLS works over IPv6.

In an MPLS network that uses IPv6, data packets are still assigned a label at the edge of the network. However, the packets themselves contain IPv6 headers and addresses. This allows the MPLS network to support the use of IPv6, in addition to other protocols such as IPv4.

When a data packet is sent from a source to a destination over an MPLS network using IPv6, it is first assigned a label at the edge of the network. The packet is then forwarded through the network based on the label, rather than the destination address. At each node in the network, the packet is examined to determine the next hop based on the label.

One of the main advantages of using MPLS over IPv6 is that it allows for the efficient forwarding of IPv6 traffic across the network.
